What our guests say

"We have had a lovely, sunny week in your beautiful home- thank you so much. We had debated going abroad but i then remembered happy childhood weekends spent at the Suffolk Seaside- so we decided to bring our boys and granny too (who will be 70 tomorrow!) What a good decision it has been- we have felt thoroughly spoilt in Barrie House- we have had relaxing days at the beach, played mini golf and breakfast at the Kitchen and exploring the coast. We will surely return again. Thank you again for opening your lovely home."

Thorpeness, a charming holiday village largely designed by the Scottish playwright and barrister Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie a century ago, is just a mile and a half along the beach from Aldeburgh. He decided to create an idyllic model seaside village, inspired by the writings of JM Barrie (hence the name of this holiday house), author of Peter Pan.

Ogilive Hall is a short walk from the Meare (local for lake) with several miles of shallow water and islands which can be explored in the summer time by rowing boat or kayak. Thorpeness award winning 18-hole golf course is a few puts away from the house, as is the Country Club with tennis courts and games rooms often available during half term holidays, as well as the summer months. The area is ideal for cycling and walking, both along the coast and inland; bikes can be hired locally or your own can be stored behind the house.

A number of shops and eateries, including the village shop, the excellent Dolphin Inn, The Kitchen and popular Meare café are within walking distance.

Sorry, no pets, smoking or unaccompanied teenagers.
