Thorpeness, a charming holiday village largely designed by the Scottish playwright and barrister Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie a century ago, is just a mile and a half along the beach from Aldeburgh. He decided to create an idyllic model seaside village, inspired by the writings of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan.
Mellows is a short walk from the Meare (local for lake) with several miles of shallow water and islands which can be explored in the summer time by rowing boat or kayak. Thorpeness award winning 18-hole golf course is a few puts away from the house, as is the Country Club with tennis courts and games rooms often available during half term holidays, as well as the summer months. The area is ideal for cycling and walking, both along the coast and inland; bikes can be hired locally or your own can be stored behind the house.
A number of shops and eateries, including the village shop, the excellent Dolphin Inn, The Kitchen and popular Meare café are within walking distance.

Mellows is well suited for guests with a mobility issue
, if you'd like to see photos to get a better idea please ask the team. Please be aware that:-
- The drive is gravel and Uplands Lane leading to it is uneven
- There is a 9 inch step up to the front door
- The en-suite to the ground floor double has a bath with shower over and the access between the bed and chest of drawers is relatively tight
- The en-suite to the single is small and the door opens directly onto the shower so it's difficult to manoeuvre and certainly not possible for a wheelchair. Basically you have to sit on the toilet to close the door then can access the shower.
- The ground floor cloakroom has good access.
- There's a smaller step down from the living space to the garden.
