Bittern House at Walberswick

Bittern House is a substantial detached holiday home surrounded by a mature private garden with gated parking for three cars on the gravel drive to the front. Inside this big and beautiful property up to 10 guests will sleep soundly in the five bedrooms over two floors and make happy memories in the luxurious living space on the ground floor, where your dog is welcome.

Entrance Hall and Utility
From the gravel drive step into this smashing Walberswick holiday house through the large solid oak front door into the spacious entrance porch. Head right to a WC and left to the living accommodation and down along a hall to the very practical utility room. The entrance porch has a bench on which to don your flip flops or boots and lots of coat hooks. The utility room has a Miele washing machine and separate tumble dryer, a full height fridge and freezer and a sink with work surface and cupboards housing the water softener and essential items. There is also another WC through a door from the utility and a glazed back door leading to the wonderful garden. With lots of coat hooks, a heated towel rail and lino tile floor, the utility room will sometimes be the best entrance after walks or beach time.

Kitchen / Dining
Through a door from the entrance hall is the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is very attractive with all the modern appliances any chefs of the group will need for preparing meals at home, including a Range style electric cooker with two ovens and a grill and a six ring ceramic hob with extractor over. With a large central island there's an abundance of space on the black granite work surfaces. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and benefits from a full size integrated dishwasher, a full height fridge, a Magimix espresso machine and microwave. The central island unit has cupboards, drawers, wine racks and breakfast bar plus three stools.

The sunny dining area is surrounded by windows and features double glazed doors out to the patio and garden beyond, letting the outside in. Sitting centrally is the long family dining table with seating for 10 so that everyone can sit together and enjoy long lazy lunches and jolly evening suppers.

Drawing Room
Through wide double wooden doors from the kitchen or another door from the entrance hall is the very sophisticated drawing room. Guests can settle at the far end on the three large sofas with the huge open fire as the focal point. Another room surrounded by windows, it's bright and airy with further double patio doors to the garden. For intimate cosy evenings, close the curtains and enjoy sharing memories with family and friends, perhaps with a glass of wine beside the fire. There is a large flat screen TV with DVD player for your entertainment and a cupboard full of DVDs beside the fireplace. Carefully considered lighting with three stylish glass Ambrosia lamps and soft carpet underfoot give this drawing room a luxurious but relaxed ambiance.

Games Room
Kids of all ages will love this room with table football, a black board with chalk, a wide selection of games on he shelves and a flat screen TV. Seating is on a large soft three seat sofa and two huge bean bag chairs. For craft and colouring there's a big desk / table with chair under the window which faces out to the garden and play house.

First Floor
Wide carpeted stairs with hand rails on both sides rise to the first floor where you'll find the master suite, a double bedroom with en suite shower room and a twin bedroom.

Master Bedroom with En suite Bathroom
A bright triple aspect room furnished elegantly, this triple aspect room features a super king bed with beside tables and lamps. There's plenty if storage in the built in double wardrobe and chest of drawers and a chair under one for the windows for reading.

The master bedroom benefits from a bright and classic en suite bathroom. The room has a large bath under the window with lots of tiled space for products, a glass door shower cubicle with rain shower, a wash basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Double Bedroom with En Suite Shower Room
To the right of the stairs sits the first floor double bedroom with two large windows overlooking the garden and an oak frame king size bed sitting centrally between bedside tables and lamps. Storage for your belongings can be found in the chest of drawers and double pine wardrobe. A door leads to the en suite shower room which offers a glazed door shower unit, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail.

Twin Bedroom
With two full size single beds this room is suitable for adults or children and your clothes can be folded into the chest of drawers.

Family Bathroom
A very well proportioned room with bath, separate shower unit, wash basin, WC amd heated towel rail.

Second Floor
Through an opening from the first floor landing are the carpeted stairs with hand rails both sides, which rise to the second floor of Bittern House where you have another en suite double bedroom, the nursery and another twin. There's a cupboard with hanging rail on this landing just outside the bathroom door.

Top Floor Double
This lovely large bedroom has views over the garden and Walberswick beyond. The king size bed sits between bedside tables and lamps. The room is in the eaves of the property so there is restricted head height to with side of the bed. Clothes can be folded in the chest of drawers and there's an opening into the nursery.

With soft tones, this room is furnished with an adjustable white wooden cot bed with a changing board over and there's lots of natural light from the window with black out blind, which looks out over fields and the village beyond.

En Suite Shower Room
A very well proportioned room with a shower unit, large wash basin and WC. Further views out over the fields and beyond can be enjoyed out of the window.

Top Twin Bedroom
Furnished with standard size twin beds this room is suitable for children and adults. There's storage in a chest of drawers and the views again from the two windows are simply stunning.

Bittern House is located at the top of a quiet lane as you head into the village of Walberswick. The house is accessed through large wooden gates and parking for three cars is on the gravel drive inside the gates.
The beautiful mature cottage garden surrounds the property and is enclosed by fencing making this a perfect garden for children and the dog. Much of the garden is laid to lawn with lots of wild flower beds and shrubs around the sides. To the left of the house is a pretty children's play house with stairs and a table and chairs, there's also a trampoline for children to play on under supervision. From the garden gate you can walk along a footpath directly to sand dunes and the beach or you can choose to head along the lane into the village.

All prices include 100% cotton bed linen, towels, heating and electricity, plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

This lovely detached self-catering holiday home is equipped with central heating and appliances include a flat screen TV and ipod docking station. The kitchen is well equipped with a six ring induction hob range cooker and island unit with granite worktop. Other appliances include an integrated fridge and freezer, an integrated dishwasher and a microwave. There's a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility along with another full height fridge and full height freezer. In the kitchen there's a Magimix espresso machine, please bring your own pods.

There is a cot in the nursery and high chair is available from the property owners on request at the time of booking. You will need to bring your own bedding for the cot bed for hygiene reasons.
Walberswick is a hidden gem in Suffolk. Until the early 20th century the village was a trading port, but today it is one of Suffolk’s top tourist attractions with picture postcard village green with tea rooms, restaurants and two public houses (The Anchor and The Bell), art gallery, original crafts and gift shops. The village is famous for its annual crabbing competition and guests will enjoy the stunning sandy beach and marshland.

Bittern House is located just minutes from the harbour and a pretty walk over the Bailey a footbridge to the popular town of Southwold which boasts several excellent pubs and restaurants as well as a range of independent shops and galleries. The town’s sandy beach is adorned with a string of colourful beach huts that lead along to the Pier.

Guests can walk along the tow path to the Harbour Inn, enjoying the view of the fishing boats and yachts along the way or, during the summer, be rowed across the estuary in the ferry boat . Fresh fish, purchased from the iconic black Walberswick fishermen’s huts are a must!

If you're looking for adventure further afield then Pleasurewood Hills, a very popular theme park with over 35 rides, is not too far away in Lowestoft. With rides for little children, families and thrill rides for the adrenaline junkies, Pleasurewood Hills promises an action packed outing for everyone.

Another excing day out is Africa Alive. Set in 100 acres of stunning Suffolk countryside, Africa Alive has five species of African savannah animals including giraffes and lions. The park is also home to some rather amazing primates including bushbabies and the rare golden-bellied mangabeys. There are great indoor and outdoor adventure play areas as well as restaurants, free parking and a gift shop.

If you are visiting between November - February a trip to Horsey Beach is a must. Here you can witness breathtaking views of the hundreds of grey seals.
One well-behaved dogs are welcome downstairs (though not on the furniture please). If you wish to bring a dog it must be mentioned at the time of booking on the booking form and is subject to our conditions of booking. Dogs must be kept on the ground floor.

The garden surrounds the property and is enclosed with fencing and gates at the front. Although there is a net around the trampoline, we request that adults supervise children if they play on it.

Once you have filled out the online booking form, you will be given the option to pay by credit or debit card, or by BACs transfer. A 25% deposit is requested at the time of your booking to secure your booking. The balance and a returnable good housekeeping deposit are due six weeks before your holiday commences.
